In the summer of 1851, it was 10th June, 1851, day,a merchant ship “Brave Head Number One (猛頭商船一號)” left the Ching Lan port (清欄港) from eastern Hainam Island (海南島), Kwangtung province (廣東省), Ching dynasty (清朝) of China (中國), the merchant ship met a typhoon in the midway on 20th June, 1851, the captain moored the merchant ship to moored (孟早) port in Quảng Ngãi province (廣義省), middle part of Vietnam (越南). In the dawn on 21st June, 1851, two Vietnamese officers boarded to investigate with two Vietnamese policemen, they found that the merchant ship carried with a lot of percious goods, they wanted to kill all Chinese passenger for their treasure, each 10 passengers were bundled to a ring, chopped down their ears as token, throw them into the sea, 108 innocent Chinese passengers were drowned to die! The wicked Vietnamese officers shared the spoils in Huế (順化), and burned the Chinese merchant ship up for eliminating the evidence! On the other hand, the wicked Vietnamese officers sent those chopped ears token to the Vietnam ruler Mr. Nguyễn Phúc Tuyền (阮福暶), they slandered those 108 Chinese passengers as pirates (海盜) for award. When Mr. Nguyễn Phúc Tuyền (阮福暶) read their report, he suddenly felt tired, his pen was dropped into the floor, then he went to sleep, the aggrieved sprites came to complain in his nightmare, …??! he secretly ordered the detective office to investigate this case. At that moment, one of the bad policeman came to a bar which is operated by a victim family, he used the swag to pay the bill, the host was shocked to see the swag which originally belong to the dead family member, and asked for the details, the drunk policeman told the whole story, his speech was accidentally heard by those royal detective officers, thus, all were arrested and charged in the court, they were all sentenced to be capital punishment at the last, their wives and kids were forced to enroll as the soldiers, the remaining swag was returned to the victim family. Nowadays, the Hainam residents believe that those 108 aggrieved Chinese sprites still alive to protect other Chinese passengers in voyage, enshrine them in a temple.
