臺大昆蟲標本室成立於1936年，是目前國內昆蟲標本中最具歷史意義的典藏資產，其中不乏百年以上之老標本與無數珍貴標本。標本蒐藏源自18世紀初期，除了典藏日據時代以及光復後的標本外，1980年開始，在國科會的鼓勵下，昆蟲學系師生積極展開臺灣昆蟲相調查，使得昆蟲標本數量激增。蒐藏之標本超過33萬個體，依性質可概分為模式標本、研究標本、教學標本、展示標本四類。臺大昆蟲標本室珍貴又豐富的昆蟲標本蒐藏，是關心昆蟲學界發展重要的文化資產。

Insectarium, Department of Entomology, NTU is established in 1936 and it has now become a historical treasure with important components from Taiwan. There are specimens which have been preserved for over a century and numerous valuable specimens. The beginning of specimen collection can date back to the early eighteen century. The specimens are continuously collected since the period of Japanese occupation and post-war, but also, after 1980, the National Science Council encouraged staffs and students of the Department of Entomology for f ield survey of insects. After then, numbers of specimens had surged. There are over 330,000 specimens in the Insectarium, and can be classified into four categories according to the use: type specimen, research specimen, teaching specimen and display specimen. Nowadays, the historical treasure of NTU Insectarium has now been leading to the progress of Entomological research from Taiwan.
